Growing up and living in the Coal Region of Pennsylvania, we have always called “Sloppy Joes” “BBQ”. It is a quick weeknight dinner and great for parties too. Also freezes well. So cook yourself up (and your family) a double or triple batch of this very darn good “BBQ” and freeze the leftovers for an even quicker weeknight dinner or unexpected company. You’ll be glad you did!
INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
½ green bell pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups ketchup
¼ to ½ cup water
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp onion powder
1 ½ tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
½ tsp Black Pepper
1 ½ tbsp. molasses
1 tsp Better than Bouillon Beef Base
DIRECTIONS:
Add ground beef to a Dutch oven over medium high heat. Cook until browned. Drain the fat and discard.
Add onions, green pepper, and garlic.
In a medium sized bowl or a 4 cup measuring cup, add ketchup, brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, molasses and water (start with a 1/4 cup and add sauce to pan). If you feel it needs more broth, add a little more. Stir to combine and simmer for 20 minutes.
Serve on brioche buns.
Ah ha. Thanks!
